Dr Leslyn Lewis to Hon Justin Trudeau

OPEN LETTER TO
PRIME MINISTER TRUDEAU

Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau Via email

June 8, 2020

Dear Prime Minister,
During this season of dealing with COVID-19, Canadians have made significant sacrifices in the name of public health. Th is goes beyond the obvious economic devastation of shattered businesses and job loss. There have been tremendous personal and human costs associated with dealing with COVID-19.

Families have lost loved ones and been unable to be at their bedside in their final days.
Weddings have been postponed or conducted without the presence of relatives or friends.
Students are missing milestone events such as graduation ceremonies and proms.
Elderly parents have only been able to see their loved ones by gazing through glass.

As difficult as this has been, most Canadians have been willing to go along with the guidance that you have been issuing, because we all wanted to do our part to keep Canadians safe and "flatten the curve".

Last Friday you completely reversed course and attended a protest with thousands of people. Through your actions, you showed Canadians it was no longer necessary to observe social distancing rules.

This showed complete disrespect for Canadians who had been following your guidelines. They believed you when you said that public health was guiding your decisions, and you broke their trust. On behalf of all Canadians, I am asking that you publicly release the scientific information used by your government to determine that large-scale protests are not a health concern, but attending a wedding or a funeral is less safe.

You have stated many times that your government makes decisions based on evidence and data. I respectfully request that you release the data you used to make your recent decision to Canadians who would like to confidently make informed decisions regarding their own health and the health of their loved. ones.

Sincerely,

Dr. Leslyn Lewis, PhD
Conservative Leadership Candidate

CC: Hon. Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health; Dr. Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer
